The Region: the Tarn and Aveyron

We are situated on the borders of the Tarn and Aveyron Departments - a beautiful, fascinating part of France, full of ravishing contrasts ... from the hilltop villages like Najac and Cordes-sur-Ciel, to plunging river gorges, to the picturesque world heritage city of Albi, with its towering cathedral. It is an area that offers wonderful outdoor activities - walking, climbing, cycling, golf and water-sports. The quality of fresh food is a delight and there are genuine markets and a great variety of excellent, unpretentious restaurants. The architecture is fascinating, from the modern, soaring Millau viaduct to medieval fortified hilltop towns like Puycelsi to the World Heritage city of Albi. The landscape is remarkably varied, from the high Aubrac plains and Black Mountains, to more gently undulating hills of the Gaillac wine domaines, and everywhere there are the rivers and lakes - the Tarn, Aveyron and Viaur and the Lacs de Levezou - with spectacular gorges and then stretches calm water with excellent swimming. The climate is a lovely combination, with summers usually long, dry and sunny - and the other seasons pleasingly 'seasonal', with Autumn often warm and colourful into early November; winter is short, frequently very wet, with cold 'snaps' and snow in the hills and mountains; and Spring starts in March, with glorious wildflowers.
It is not possible for a single website to provide detailed information on such a varied area, so we have prepared a short list of website links that we believe provide a good impression of what the region has to offer:
