SuomiAfter a great Christmas, with Christmas lunch in our new room, we have had a few tasks to finish off!:

Anyway, the work we have had to do is a complete 'clean-up' of the barn areas alongside and above the newly renovated rooms. This involved 'hoovering up' the very fine dust that was produced from the cutting of the stones from the new doorway and windows. Our trusty industrial Aquavac gave up, showering sparks and then catching fire! We bought a very large Karcher 'machine' and that has done the job of cleaning up throughout.
The next task has been to install the wood-stove - have now got this delivered and it is a mighty beast (@ 240 kgs).

The macon and the wood-stove specialist he has brought in has said we need an iron plate for the stove to sit on - we thought that they would sort this. So, we have spent today trying to track something down ... and, rather surprisingly, have been successful The drilling work to open up the floor above the stove, to run the pipework up, has been really well done - no fuss and very precise. So, the final installation stage can take place next Monday - hooray!!
The remaining work in the new sitting/dining room is the library shelving and IT 'work-desk' - and we're hoping to complete this by the end of February, using the same redwood pine that we've used throughout. The IT side of things has progressed and we have successfully installed wifi extenders to take the online facilities into the new area. We have also sourced the infra-red cameras for installation in the garden, that will record any night-time movement in whatever area of the garden we want to focus on ... and this is recorded on a data card that can be brought back to the IT area in the sitting/dining room and played back, recorded, edited and uploaded etc. We have also sourced the bird-box that will have the camera on board to relay pictures of the nesting activity.
And there has been some other work: we have started to construct the rockery from the stonework we have taken out to make the doorway and windows (remember that?):

Also, there have been other creative developments - our very good friend, Jacky, has been making a stained-glass window to fit into one of our small 'medieval-like porthole windows' ... with the theme of birds and sky. It has worked beautifully and we did the final fitting into the frame last week:
- an excellent way to celebrate the New Year!
