SuomiWe are now ready to start work on the bookshelves in the new sitting/dining room. The sanding of the redwood pine planks has been completed:
- and we have bought some new tools ... a hefty router, to enable us to add some decorative work to the shelving, and a powerful jigsaw that will allow us to cut to some of the irregular shapes around the stone walls. There will be about 40 metres of bookshelf space, providing storage/display space for over 1000 books .... so, at last we can unpack some of the removal boxes we have in the upper barn.
Work starts this weekend and we hope it will be completed by March 27th. This will then allow us to start work on the garden structures we have now planned: a covered walkway leading to a large pergola. We have just received the quotation for doing this in oak (it is a lot of wood) and were amazed to have the cost from the sawmills we've been using put at 720 euros ... incredibly good value. In the next post we'll describe the plans for this - that links to the plan we have for a sitting-out area that will be able to comfortably accommodate wheelchairs.
By the by, here's a picture of the breakfast table for guests in the new sitting/dining room ... it's working very well - the bookshelves will be built all along that wall at the back, behind the clementine tree in the pot!
