Wall-fest and end of Stage 1

The work over the past 12 days has gone really well and we are ahead of schedule. Hooray!
Over the past two days a lot of the floor preparation and the stud work for the walls has been completed. In some places we discovered some quite challenging problems - the floor of this end of the barn is very uneven, so to lay the base struts for the stud work required more even surfaces. Have a look at this bit of the floor at one end of what will be the larder  -  underneath some lumps in the floor which we tried to level we found a very large quartz rock, which had to be removed and the surface around it chipped away to make it level:

We now have stud work in place for the larder, the main dividing wall, and the resurfacing work on the existing walls, where we will insulate and board:

This Stage has been around 150 hours work  -  but, thanks to David's amazing work-rate and sometimes my acting as apprentice, and to planning discussions day to day between Nollie and David as things have developed and changed, a lot has been achieved and we asre looking to the next Stage. David now flies back to the UK for four weeks and Stage 2 starts in mid-August. In the meantime I will do some preparation work and make sure the additional building materials are ready. Stage 2 will see work on the walls, being insulated and boarded, and on laying the floor  - which will be battened and boarded ... a demanding process, as the floor levels are so uneven. 
But the development feels like a reality now and we are really excited about it.
